About the Workshop…

The O’Neill Festival of New Works offers a rare opportunity for dramatists to work with dramaturges in preparation for each festival’s staged readings. In this case the dramaturge is Howard Karren - a drama and film critic well-known to Cape Codders. In addition to being an arts columnist for the Provincetown Banner and the Provincetown Independent, Howard is the curator/host of the Provincetown Film Art Series at Waters Edge Cinema.

  • The first reading of “Lines in the Sand” (Friday, October 6 at 1pm at the Red Room) will present the play version of the script.

  • The second reading (Monday, October 9 at 2pm at St. Mary’s of the Harbor) will be the screenplay version.

Playwright’s Goals for the Workshop…

From Jim Dalglish:

I have had some success with my play “Lines in the Sand.” It’s been produced to great reviews in Cotuit in 2017. We took that production to Dublin, Ireland, for the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival and it was a finalist for four prizes and won two “Oscars” for the two actors who appeared in the show – Tony Travostino and Nick Bucchianeri. The reviews and awards were strong enough for us to decide to take it to New York City for a limited run at a small theatre in Mid-town Manhattan.

I’ve always thought the show would be a great film. After the success of my feature film “Teacher of the Year,” I figured it was time to see if I was ready to bring this story to life on the screen.

This festival offers a rare chance to see a play script being turned into a screenplay right before the audience’s eyes. I’m convinced that the play script is compelling. I pray to god I can pull of the screenplay. Come and see… and help me! Please!
